Lazy Here, Hardworking There — What Is the System Not Telling Us?

A reflection for citizens, counselors, and policymakers who are still asking the wrong question. Every week, I sit across from young people in my counseling office. Motivated, curious, full of ideas. And almost every conversation ends at the same place. "I want to go abroad." I don't blame them. I understand the logic. And honestly, as someone who works in this field and studies economics at the same time, I have spent a lot of time thinking about why that sentence keeps repeating itself — in every district, every family, every generation. What I have come to believe is this: we are asking the wrong question. We keep asking — why are our young people leaving? The real question is — why is the system here not giving them a reason to stay? The Physics of Human Behavior There is a concept in physics that I keep thinking about when I look at the migration data. If you take water — ordinary water, no special properties — and you push it through a narrow high-press...

Nepal’s Demographic Dividend: Why the Skills-Employment Gap is Turning Opportunity into Burden

As a Master's student in Economics at Tribhuvan University, I often analyze data that shows Nepal is currently sitting on a golden opportunity. With nearl y 62% o f the population in the working-age group (15–59 years), the country has one of the highest potentials for a demographic dividend in its history [1] . According to recent reports, Nepal needs to create around 6.5 million jobs by 2050 to fully benefit from this young population. If we succeed, this could significantly boost economic growth, increase productivity, and improve living standards. However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. Every day as an education counselor, I meet talented, motivated young people who are full of potential but remain underemployed or unemployed. The main reason is not a lack of degrees — but a serious mismatch between the skills they possess and the skills the market demands. Many graduates come out with strong theoretical knowledge but lack effective communication and present...

PURAN THINKS

Puran Thinks  Puran Thinks is a space of reflection, not certainty. It explores life, science, and the nature of reality through curiosity rather than conclusions. Here, thoughts are not final answers but evolving ideas—shaped by experience, questioning, and observation. It is a journal of thinking in motion: sometimes logical, sometimes emotional, sometimes uncertain—but always honest. Nothing here is fixed. Everything is in process.

Bridging Skills and Opportunities in Nepal’s Digital Generation

We are living in a world where being skilled is no longer enough. Today, people also need to be seen, connected, and able to present themselves to opportunities. In many ways, this is becoming one of the biggest realities of the modern world, especially for countries like Nepal. Nepal today is changing. The younger generation is more educated, more aware, more ambitious, and more globally connected than ever before. There is clearly a generation shift happening. Young people are learning new skills, exploring technology, studying online, building ideas, and trying to grow beyond traditional limitations. But at the same time, there is also a silent struggle that many youths are facing. The tragedy is not always the lack of talent. The tragedy is that many talented people remain unseen. In Nepal, many young people have skills, creativity, ideas, and potential, but they often do not know how to present themselves to the market, opportunities, or employers. Sometimes the opportunities...

My Experience at Creators Mela 2026: Learning About Nepal’s Growing Creator Economy

In January 2026, I got the opportunity to attend Creators Mela 2026 , organized by the U.S. Embassy Nepal at Hotel Siraichuli, Chitwan . For me, this was not just another event, but a very insightful experience where I got to learn about Nepal’s growing creator economy, digital storytelling, entrepreneurship, and the future of online influence in today’s world. The event brought together many creators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, innovators, and young minds from different sectors. It created an environment full of ideas, creativity, and discussions about how the digital world is changing opportunities for young people in Nepal. As the creator economy is slowly growing in Nepal too, this program helped me understand how creators and digital platforms are beginning to shape the trajectory of the Nepali economy and society. One of the most inspiring parts of the event was listening to successful personalities and business leaders share their experiences and insights. I got the chance to...

My Journey at EIMUN 2024: A Transformative Diplomatic Experience

Attending EIMUN 2024 was one of the most enriching and memorable experiences of my academic and personal journey. The event was conducted by the U.S. Embassy in Nepal in collaboration with Youth Thinkers’ Society , bringing together passionate young delegates from across Asia on a single international platform. For me, it was not just a conference — it was an experience that expanded my worldview, strengthened my diplomatic skills, and connected me with inspiring individuals from different countries and cultures.                                                               Represented as a Delegate of UAE Having previously participated in several Model United Nations (MUN) conferences and being appreciated for my diplomatic thinking and communication abilities, I was naturally excited to be part of EIMUN 2024. However, this conferen...
